Experienced leadership. Responsible decisions. A strong future for Saugeen Shores. I’m running for Council to give back to the community that has meant so much to me and to help build a strong future for all of us.
Saugeen Shores is growing and changing. That creates opportunities, but it also makes thoughtful planning, responsible spending and strong local representation more important than ever.
I want to bring my professional experience, community involvement and practical approach to council — and make sure residents are heard when decisions are made.
After nearly 40 years in senior operational leadership, I learned that good decisions require facts, careful planning, financial discipline and a willingness to listen.
A practical approach to the decisions that will shape our community now and in the years ahead.
Respect taxpayers. Set priorities. Plan for the long term. I will look carefully at capital cost, operating cost, debt and long-term maintenance before supporting major expenditures. Residents deserve value for every tax dollar.
Growth must be supported by infrastructure and services. I support responsible growth, but roads, water and wastewater systems, recreation, emergency services and medical resources must keep pace. Growth should pay its fair share of the costs it creates.
Growth and preservation don’t have to be opposites. We can welcome new residents and investment while protecting the heritage, waterfront, neighbourhoods and small-town qualities that make Saugeen Shores special.
Saugeen Shores has been a part of Eric since birth. After a lifetime of spending summers here, he chose to make it his permanent home in retirement. Since then, he has put his time and experience to work for the community.
Eric spent nearly 40 years in airport leadership across Canada and the north, culminating as Director of Operations at Toronto Pearson International Airport, with responsibility for a $300 million budget. His career required sound decisions, financial discipline, long-term planning and working with people in complex organizations.
That’s the experience and judgment he wants to bring to council.
Managing complex infrastructure taught Eric to ask the right questions, weigh competing priorities and make responsible decisions.
Strong communities depend on well-managed infrastructure — from water and waste services to roads, recreation and the places that give Saugeen Shores its character.
My approach is practical: understand the facts, listen to residents, consider the long-term consequences and protect the interests of the community.
Council must provide the services and infrastructure residents depend on while respecting the people who pay the bills. Before supporting significant spending, I want to understand the initial cost, ongoing operating expense, future maintenance, financing implications and long-term impact on taxpayers.
I support responsible growth, but development must be matched by roads, water and wastewater capacity, recreation, emergency services and medical resources. We should plan ahead and ensure growth pays its fair share rather than placing an unreasonable burden on existing taxpayers.
I support clearer and more efficient planning, but efficiency cannot come at the expense of meaningful public input, neighbourhood character or appropriate accountability. Before supporting a final system, I want to be satisfied those protections are clear.
My involvement in Saugeen Shores has given me the opportunity to work alongside volunteers, residents and community organizations that care deeply about this place.
